Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) 2016

This year, Heung Chung students got excellent results with a total accumulation of 691 Level 4 or above, which is equal to 65.6% of the total number of subjects sat. In total, 87.5% of our students have met the general entrance requirements for local undergraduate university programmes.

Champion of the 7th Inter-Government Secondary Schools English Debating Competition 2015-2016

Our English Debate Team was awarded the Champion in the 7th Inter-Government Secondary Schools English Debating Competition 2015-2016 Grand Final against Sau Kei Wan Government Secondary School, with all five judges giving us the victory over our opponent on 6th July 2016. This year, 20 government secondary schools participated in the competition. Prior to the Grand Final, our English Debate Team defeated Queen Elizabeth School and King’s College in the Quarter Final and Semi-Final competitions respectively.

Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place

On 7th July, the Visual Art Club, English Club, Alumni Association and the History Club jointly organized a visit to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Students had a chance to appreciate the exhibition "Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place” which is a program of Le French May. Students were greatly interested in the exhibits and the sharing of the tour guide. They have learnt how to appreciate the masterpieces of one the Impressionist master Claude Monet.

Senior Police Call Yuen Long Beware of Deception Music Video

The school Campus TV has been actively participated in community services. In May 2016, our students have helped Senior Police Call Yuen Long created a music video to convey the message of beware of deception, reminding the elderly to be aware of telephone deception and fake medicine deception. Our students’ contribution was highly commended by Senior Police Call Yuen Long and they were awarded a trophy of Appreciation.

In order to keep S.5 students and their parents abreast of different ways of continuing studies after secondary school education, the Careers Team held a talk on ‘Multiple Pathways for Continuing Studies after S.6’ on 27 June 2016. The students and their parents were very attentive in the talk. They were informed of the most updated information about the ways to continue their studies in local and overseas institutions. 2015-16 Grantham Scholars of the Year

Grantham Scholars of the Year was introduced with the aim of rewarding all-around students of good character with outstanding academic achievements, active in extra-curricular activities and devoted to school and community services. Only 24 students will be selected to receive this prestigious award in Hong Kong every year. Following in the footsteps of Ms Lee Lai Shan who was awarded Grantham Scholars of the Year, our graduate Ms HO Tsoi Lam who obtained four 5**s, two 5*s and one 5 in HKDSE and had outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities and community services has won the same award.

Hong Kong Inter-school King of Advertisement Competition

Wong Yuen Ting and Wong Tsz Fung have recently joined the “Hong Kong Inter-school King of Advertisement Competition” organized by am730 and Good Morning CLASS. In this activity, not only did they have to design a commercial film and print advertisement for the designated brand, but they also presented the idea and concepts to the judges and clients. After a series of tense competitions, they outshone the other competitors and were awarded the “Brand Award” and the “Most Saleable Award”.

English Day-The British Royal Family

With Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday and the meeting of Prince George and US President Obama, the British Royal Family is surrounded by a joyous atmosphere. In order to let students get more understanding of the British Royal Family, the English Club organized English Day on 5th and 6th May 2016 with the theme of British Royal Family. A stall was set up in which students communicated in English and learnt more about the history and news of the British Royal Family. Students were interested in the interactive games.

Xi’an Study Tour(25-29/3/2016)

5A Chan Sheung Yin had been selected as one of the tour members of Xi’an Study Tour organized by N.T. Heung Yee Kuk during 25-29 March, 2016. This tour offered student members an opportunity to understand the history and culture of Xi’an. Zhejiang-Jinhua Study Trip(2-6/3/2016)

Thirty S.5 students, together with our Assistant Principal, Miss Wu and teachers joined our School Study Trip to Jinhua, Zhejiang from 2-6 March. The 5-day trip offered students a chance to have a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture. They visited the High School Affiliated to Zhejiang Normal University and a sister school of our school, and shared learning experience with mainland students.

The Performance of the Best JPC School Club (Secondary) Award in Yuen Long District 14/15

Our school was awarded ‘The Performance of the Best JPC School Club (Secondary) Award in Yuen Long District 14/15’. This award aims at giving due recognition to the most dedicated JPC School Club with the most outstanding performance. Our JPC School Club made every effort in assisting the police in the fight against crime, actively participating in community service, promoting recreational activities for youths and entering and winning many official events. Wong Mei Chi, Chan Ngar Kiu, Shing Tung Yi, Ling Pui Yu and Lau Tsz Yan have tried their best to organize and participate in the activities for the award scheme.

The Geography Cross Border Field Study at Taiwan

To enhance students' interest in Geography, facilitate them to apply knowledge and concepts they have learnt in Geography to the reality and consolidate their learning, teachers from Geography Department designed a cross border field study from 2 to 6 March. Thirty students joined the tour and conducted in-depth enquiry studies at Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area, Plunto Diablos, Yangmingshan National Park, etc. They studied the geological and ecological landscape, social, cultural, urban, and economic development of Taiwan and made comparisons with those in Hong Kong. During the trip, students were greatly engaged in the application of their knowledge and asked a lot of questions. They broadened their horizons and got memorable experience.

English Day-Etiquette

Our English Day was successfully held on 16 March 2016. The theme of the English Day was etiquette. A stall was set up in which students were invited to demonstrate basic table manners. Through the interactive game, students communicated in English and learnt appropriate dinner table etiquette. Students were interested in the interactive games.

Volunteer Service(23 Jan 2016)

Members of the Community Services Team and Twisting Balloons Team united in a freezing day for a good cause. They participated in a game booth volunteer service the Neighbors Reunion Dinner on 23 January to send the residents a gentle and warm care. They prepared games which were suitable for all ages, and gave out beautifully-made balloons. They successfully shared love and joy with the residents.

Careers Expo 2016

In order to help students plan and gather more information about their future career paths, the Careers Team and the Alumni Association successfully organized Career Expo 2016 on 20th February 2016. We are honoured to have 9 alumni who are all experienced practitioners in 5 different professions to share their valuable experience with our schoolmates. They are Ms Cheng Hei Tung (Civil Service) and Ms Kan Kwai Yi (Social Work), Dr. Wong Chin Pang(Medicine), Ms. Yiu Wai Chun (Law), Ms Chow Yin Fong(Business), Ms Joyce Chau(Business), Ms Lai Yim Sin (Business), Ms. Chan Pui Ka (Mass Media) and Mr. Lau King Fai (Mass Media). They provided our students with a lot of useful information about the professions. The students showed great interests in their talks and were zealous to inquire more about the information of the career they want to pursue.

Campus Visits at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University(25-26/1/2016)

To enable students to do career and life planning, our school joined Campus Visit Program organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 25 and 26 January 2016. Over 100 S4 and S5 students participated in the program. They were introduced the features of the programmes they are interested in, their admission requirements and career prospects. Through the Campus Visits, students obtained the most up-to-date information on the programmes offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University which helped them make informed choices for their tertiary studies.

Prefects Mainland Exchange Programme(20-24/12/2015)

200 students were selected from over 600 nominated students from 125 secondary schools in Hong Kong to participate in the Prefects Mainland Exchange Programme organised by the Education Bureau, 5C Lin Yee-man was one of them. During the five-day trip, participants visited institutions and museums in Beijing, including Beihang University, Beijing 101 Middle School, Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall, China Science and Technology Museum and China Railway Museum( Zhengyangmen). It is a valuable experience for students to share their ideas with local students.

2015 Hong Kong Government Secondary Schools Taiwan Study Trip(16-20/12/2015)

Nine S.5 students, together with Mr Tsang, joined the 2015 Hong Kong Government Secondary School Study Trip to Taiwan from 16 to 20 December. The 5-day trip offered students a chance to take a closer look at the sustainable development of Taiwan. They visited four universities and a number of well-known tourists spots, such as Sunflower Farm in Taichung, 21 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, Ten-Drum Cultural Creative Village and two famous night markets. Through different activities, students learnt more about the local culture of Taiwan.

Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths Programme (2015 / 2016)

5B Chan Yan Yee was selected as one of the student delegates of the Hong Kong Delegation this year . The programme (JENEYSYS 2.0) is a youth exchange programme established by the Japanese Government to promote mutual understanding among students in the East Asia and to deepen their understanding of Japan through various activites. It has been an honour for Chan Yan Yee to join this programme and participate in the exchange program from 15th to 23rd December 2015. During the programme, she visited cultural sites and research institutes in Japan, and had interaction with Japanese youths by school attachment.

Collection of the 2015 HKDSE certificates

The 2015 HKDSE certificates have been delivered to the school. Graduates can collect them in person at the General Office during office hours. Graduates should have ready their proof of identity when collecting their certificates. If graduates wish to have their certificates collected on their behalf, the authorized person must present a photocopy of graduate student’s identity card and an authorization letter upon collection of the certificates.

Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students - Route 7 Geological landforms and ecological conservation in Danxia Mountain of Shaoguan

A team of S.2 and S.3 students were pleased to visit Danxia Mountain of Shaoguan from 12 to 14 November under the Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students held by the “Passing on the Torch” National Education Platform. The program is very much aligned with The National Education Platform’s goal to promote students' knowledge about ecological conservation and broaden their horizons.

Field Study at Cheung Chau

To share and exchange ideas between senior and junior form students and cultivate students’ interest in Geography, six S4 and S5 students taking Geography subject designed a field study in Cheung Chau. Students planned the route, and designed the worksheets by themselves. On 17th November, the six students act as the tutor of twenty-two junior form students. They visited Cheung Chau and observed the rocks (人頭石、花瓶石), land use, vegetation, coastal depositional landforms and erosional landforms. They guided the junior students to explore the relationship between human and the environment and promoted the preservation of rocks and the environment. All the students gained great experience in the trip.

Young Astronaut Training Camp

Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the China Astronaut Research and Training Center and the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, in association with the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre organized the camp. 40 students were selected from over 200 nominated students from 125 secondary schools in Hong Kong to participate in the Young Astronaut Training Camp. Participants were required to go through 3 rounds of selection, including a quiz on Astronomy and Space Science, a 3-day pre-tour training camp and an interview, to assess their response, communication skills and language competency. Participants with outstanding performance were selected to join the camp.

Flag Selling

A team of S.1 students and parents supported the activity of the Hong Kong Eating Disorder Association, which is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting public awareness and knowledge of eating disorders, by participating in the Flag Selling Day of it on 3rd October. The activity did not only raise funding for promoting volunteerism and harmony in the community but also increased parents' positive involvement in their children's school life.

The Community Chest Dress Causal Day

The Community Chest Dress Casual Day 2015/2016 was held on 8 October 2015. To actively support the event, students and teachers put on their causal attires on the day to school to show care for the needy. $36,030 was raised and the donation will be allocated to social welfare agencies supported by the Chest to help the needy and develop comprehensive social welfare services in Hong Kong, which helped promote the idea of fraternity.

A Tea Party was jointly organized by the English Club and the Western Cultures Club on 25 September 2015. The aim of the activity was to promote a rich English-speaking environment in the school and let students have a deeper understanding of western cultures. The New Territories Outstanding Students Selection 2015

In spite of the intense competition among about 1,000 students from 7 districts in the New Territories, S.3 SHUM Ching Ki Jade has been selected as one of the top 10 Outstanding Students in the New Territories wing to her outstanding performance in acacemic, leadership, extra-curricular activities and voluntary work. S.3 WEN Xin Yu was also selected as the Outstanding Student in the New Territories Outstanding Students Selection 2015 organized by the Federation of the New Territories Youth and the Federation of Outstanding Students.

HKSAR Outstanding Students Selection 2015

S5 Chan Yan Ki was selected as one of the ten outstanding students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Outstanding Students Award 2015 after several rounds of interviews. The selection was jointly organized by JCI Yuen Long and the HKSAR Outstanding Students’ Union with the aim of encouraging secondary school students to utilize their potentials and strive to foster a balanced development among academic performance, extra-curricular activities, community services, leadership and self-awareness.

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) 2015

This year, Heung Chung students got excellent results with a total accumulation of 792 Level 4 or above, which is equal to 70.3% of the total number of subjects sat. In total, 88.9% of our students have met the general entrance requirements for local undergraduate university programmes.

Our Principal, Mr. Lam Ka Yiu shared the joyful moments with the students.
