Collection of the 2011 HKAL Examination certificates
The 2011 HKAL Examination certificates have been delivered to school. Graduates can collect them in person at the General Office during office hours.
Graduates should have ready their proof of identity when collecting their certificates.
If graduates wish to have their certificates collected on their behalf, the authorized person must present a photocopy of the
graduate’s identity card and an authorization letter upon collection of the certificates.

High Flyers' Sharing Session
The N.T. Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School’s High Flyers’ Sharing Session was held on 17th December, 2011 with the participation of 350 primary school students, parents and teachers from 40 primary schools.
It was held to provide an opportunity for our school’s elite students to express their gratitude towards the efforts of the primary school teachers.
Participants have a chance to have a taste of secondary school life, to tour around the school and know more about the procedure of S1 admission. All the participants greatly benefited from the sharing session.

40th Annual Speech Day
The N.T. Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School’s 40th Annual Speech Day was held on 12th December, 2011 in the school hall.

4E Chan Fung has achieved distinctions in both Mathematics and Problem Solving papers and was qualified to join World Class Arena Elite Competition.

"One person, One Flower Scheme"
Our school has joined “One person, One Flower Scheme” organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It is encouraging that 110 students have signed up to take part in the programme.
The objectives of the programme are to cultivate students’ interest in growing plants and to promote a green culture among the students. Each participating student was given one seedling, a flower pot and soil.
Participants are required to keep a record of the process of planting the flowers.

'Teen Talk'
Our students participated in 'Teen Talk' which was organized by The Lawers' Society of Hong Kong on 26th November 2011. Three videos about controversial current affairs were played in the activity.
Students had to form groups to discuss on the videos played from the moral and legal perspectives. Our Students performed actively in the event. ‘Teen talk’ has not only deepened our students’ concerns about current affairs,
but also helped them develop a better understanding in the work of lawyers. Moreover, students have learned to view and analyze an incident from multiple angles. They benefited greatly from the event.

Competition on Story Writing in Chinese for Students
6A Cheung Chui Yan won a merit prize in the Competition on Story Writing in Chinese for Students in 2011,
which is organised by Hong Kong Public Libraries and Hong Kong Children's Arts Society.
Through joining this competition, the student has become more interested in writing and literature appreciation,
which greatly enhances her language proficiency in writing.

Talk to S.7 students concerning Chinese Language and Culture
Dr. Lam, Wai-ip Joseph, Teaching Consultant of The University of Hong Kong, and Principal Chong Yun Cheung , an experienced examiner,
were invited to conduct a talk to our S.7 students concerning Chinese Language and Culture on 22 November 2011. The talk aims to further enhance students understanding towards Chinese Language and Culture and get students well-prepared for the AL exams.
Students greatly benefited from the expert advice.

Activity: “青年與局長網上談施政”
Our students participated in “青年與局長網上談施政” organized by Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups on 18th and 25th October.
Students had a chance to discuss education policies with Mr. Chen Wei On, Kenneth, Undersecretary for the Education Bureau,
and housing policies with and Ms. Eva Cheng, GBS, JP, Secretary for Transport Housing. Students actively expressed their concerns
about the policies and received detailed responses from the speakers. Students demonstrated a strong awareness towards social issues and they greatly benefited from the event.

2011 Hong Kong Chinese Chess Open Competition
The school chess team got the Secondary School Division Champion of the 2011 Hong Kong Chinese Chess Open Competition organized by the 14th Bridge Chess Club of the Hong Kong City University Student Association.
Our school chess team (5C Lo Chi Hong, 5C Shee Yiu ming and 6C Liu Chung Ting) got the secondary school division Champion in the 2011 Tuen Mun Chinese Chess Competition, which was jointly organized
by New Territories West Chinese Chess Association and the Tuen Mun District Council.

The 36th Hong Kong Youth Translation Competition
The 36th Hong Kong Youth Translation Competition was organized by Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions Committee and Peninsula Junior Chamber.

Walk for the Harbour
Twenty students of our school joined Walk for the Harbour on 6th November 2011 to show their support for the protection of the habour.
They set off New Star Ferry Pier, Central, at 2:30 p.m.. It took them about an hour to reach the destination -
Golden Bauhinia Square, Wanchai. The Harbour Carnival offered game booths, magic shows, school performances and lucky draw for students to participate.

Talk about Town Planning
Representatives of Planning Department were invited by our school’s Liberal Studies and Geography Department to conduct a talk about Town Planning,
which was successfully held on 1st November. We were honoured to invite Ms Carmen SY Chan, a town planner, to share with us on the topic entitled “Kai Tai Planning Review”,
enabling students to have a better understanding of the relationship between urban planning and the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
Students were actively involved and were greatly benefited from the talk.

Teachers and students enjoy having a melodic English Day
Beautiful English songs are played in the campus to highlight the feature of our second English Day. Students have interesting mini-games like filling in lyrics and crossword puzzle to play. Everyone chats with each other and the Principal surprises students
by visiting them in their classrooms to talk about their everyday life together.

The Open Day of N.T. Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School was successfully held on 1st April 2011.
During this joyful occasion, more than thirty clubs and teams joined hands to bring to life our theme for the Open Day: “Broaden the Vision, Embrace the World”.
The extensive and richly detailed displays in the hall, lobby, covered playground and volleyball court demonstrated our students’ remarkable efforts and creativity,
attracting more than 30 primary schools and 300 guests to come to visit.

The 8th Bridge Building Competition
The Hong Kong Construction Association, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education jointly organized the 8th Bridge Building Competition on 12 March 2011 (Bridge-making day) and 26 March 2011 (Testing day).
287 teams participated in the Competition including teams of students from Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. Our school sent 20 students to the competition in 4 teams. Each team was required to utilize 25 1000mm x 6mm x 6mm wooden sticks and glue to construct a bridge.
On Testing day, after a 2-hour test of the bridges’ weight loading ability, Team 2 of our school (members: Lee Fu Wa, Chau Yu Ting, Wong Man Huen, Liu Lap Kin, Chan Chak Tung) successfully entered the final event along with 17 other groups. Finally, after deliberation and retesting by 12 judges the team won the championship for the "Best Design".
