The Hok Yau Club Potential Development Centre has organized the Outstanding Secondary School Student Leaders Selection 2011-2012 to recognize and award S4 to S7 student leaders who have shown remarkable levels of

After four rounds of interviews, S.5 Tse Chung Wing was shortlisted to be one of the thirty student leaders.

Performance in the 'Chinese Culture Week'
at Lung Cheung Government Secondary School
Heung Chung Chinese Orchestra was invited by Lung Cheung Government Secondary School to perform in the 'Chinese Culture Week' 4 May 2012. They performed 3 songs, Erhu Ensemble, Pipa Ensemble and the full orchestra.
Both teachers and students of Lung Cheung Government Secondary School enjoyed the show very much and found their performance impressive.

2nd Blood Donation Day
Our 2nd Blood Donation Day was successfully held on 3rd May 2012. Due to active participation of students on our first Blood Donation Day, our principal decided to organize the 2nd Blood Donation Day.

"Passing on the Torch: Exploring and Embracing Chinese Culture"
"The tour of traditional culture; lives in city and countryside and economic development in Shanghai and Hangzhou"

Ten S.4 students of our school participated in the National Education Exchange Programme “The tour of traditional culture; lives in city and countryside and economic development in Shanghai and Hangzhou” organized by Hong Kong Education Bureau from 10 to 14 April 2012.
Through the visits to Shanghai and Hanzhou, they learned more about traditional architecture and garden arts, the culture of Chinese water village, and the current situation of its revitalization. They also had a chance to develop a better understanding of the culture of Shanghai,
characteristics of architecture and processes of urbanization of Shanghai.

English Day – Tableau Design Competition
The English Day for May has been successfully held on 2 May 2012. The theme is drama. To enable students to get to know more about drama, the Tableau Design Competition has been organized and students’ response was overwhelming.
Five teams performed remarkably well and the team formed by Wong Wai Yin (5D), So Man Ling (4A) and Law Man Ling (4A) was selected as the Champion.

1st Plain English Speaking Contest
The 1st Plain English Speaking Contest organized by Chiu Lut Sau Memorial Secondary School supported by English Speaking Union Hong Kong and EDB (Net Section) has been successfully held on 30 March 2012. 3E Kung Ki Yan performed remarkably well and won the 2nd Runner up.
The performance of other competitors was also praiseworthy and was highly commended by the adjudicators.

The Elite Student Project in Chinese Language 2011/12
“The Elite Student Project in Chinese Language 2011/12” was organized by the Chinese Language Education Research Association. Participants were required to pass the heat,
semi-final and final competition, including the Extempore Writing, Lecture, Group Discussion, Chinese Culture Quiz and Creativity Competition. Among 50 students who were qualified for the semi-final,
10 of them won Gold Awards, 10 won Silver Awards and 30 won Bronze Awards. 3E Au Sheung Hing won Bronze Award.
3E Ho Tsoi Lam won Silver Award and was the Second Runner-up of Lecture and Group Discussion Competition.

Performance of the School Band, Alchemist—Getting to know American Songs
To prepare students for the talk from the US Consulate and increase students’ exposure to English and American culture, the school band formed by Leung Chun Kit (5D),
Chung Cheuk Lam (5D), Man Tze Yan (5D), Leung Chau Ying (5D), Chung Chui Hin (5D) and Yau Yuet Sing (5E) held a lunch time mini concert in the school lobby on 5 March 2012.
They performed 5 famous American songs including What I’ve Done, Let it Be, Bolevard of Broken Dreams, The Story of Us and 21 Guns.
Both teachers and students enjoyed the show very much and found their performance impressive.

The Book Launch Event of Stories Alive English Story-Writing Competition for Junior Secondary Students
The Book Launch Event of Stories Alive English Story-Writing Competition for Junior Secondary Students organized by SCOLAR and British Council was successfully held on 16 Feb 2012.
Our prize winners, Ip Yin Hei (3E), Kung Ki Yan (3E), Wong Lok Man (4E), Kowk Hiu Nam (2E) and Lai Ka Yau (3E), were invited to attend the ceremony.
Wong Lok Man was invited to share excerpt of her story to mark the beginning of the book launch ceremony. The remarkable performance of Wong Lok Man was highly commended by Dr. K. K. Chan, Deputy Secretary of Education Bureau.
An anthology has been published to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of students.

High Flyers' Sharing Session
The N.T. Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School’s High Flyers’ Sharing Session was held on 17th December, 2011 with the participation of 350 primary school students, parents and teachers from 40 primary schools.
It was held to provide an opportunity for our school’s elite students to express their gratitude towards the efforts of the primary school teachers.
Participants have a chance to have a taste of secondary school life, to tour around the school and know more about the procedure of S1 admission. All the participants greatly benefited from the sharing session.

"One person, One Flower Scheme"
Our school has joined “One person, One Flower Scheme” organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It is encouraging that 110 students have signed up to take part in the programme.
The objectives of the programme are to cultivate students’ interest in growing plants and to promote a green culture among the students. Each participating student was given one seedling, a flower pot and soil.
Participants are required to keep a record of the process of planting the flowers.

'Teen Talk'
Our students participated in 'Teen Talk' which was organized by The Lawers' Society of Hong Kong on 26th November 2011. Three videos about controversial current affairs were played in the activity.
Students had to form groups to discuss on the videos played from the moral and legal perspectives. Our Students performed actively in the event. ‘Teen talk’ has not only deepened our students’ concerns about current affairs,
but also helped them develop a better understanding in the work of lawyers. Moreover, students have learned to view and analyze an incident from multiple angles. They benefited greatly from the event.

Competition on Story Writing in Chinese for Students
6A Cheung Chui Yan won a merit prize in the Competition on Story Writing in Chinese for Students in 2011,
which is organised by Hong Kong Public Libraries and Hong Kong Children's Arts Society.
Through joining this competition, the student has become more interested in writing and literature appreciation,
which greatly enhances her language proficiency in writing.

Dr. Lam, Wai-ip Joseph, Teaching Consultant of The University of Hong Kong, and Principal Chong Yun Cheung , an experienced examiner,
were invited to conduct a talk to our S.7 students concerning Chinese Language and Culture on 22 November 2011. The talk aims to further enhance students understanding towards Chinese Language and Culture and get students well-prepared for the AL exams.

Our students participated in “青年與局長網上談施政” organized by Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups on 18th and 25th October.
Students had a chance to discuss education policies with Mr. Chen Wei On, Kenneth, Undersecretary for the Education Bureau,
and housing policies with and Ms. Eva Cheng, GBS, JP, Secretary for Transport Housing. Students actively expressed their concerns
about the policies and received detailed responses from the speakers. Students demonstrated a strong awareness towards social issues and they greatly benefited from the event.

The school chess team got the Secondary School Division Champion of the 2011 Hong Kong Chinese Chess Open Competition organized by the 14th Bridge Chess Club of the Hong Kong City University Student Association.
Our school chess team (5C Lo Chi Hong, 5C Shee Yiu ming and 6C Liu Chung Ting) got the secondary school division Champion in the 2011 Tuen Mun Chinese Chess Competition, which was jointly organized

Walk for the Harbour
Twenty students of our school joined Walk for the Harbour on 6th November 2011 to show their support for the protection of the habour.
They set off New Star Ferry Pier, Central, at 2:30 p.m.. It took them about an hour to reach the destination -
Golden Bauhinia Square, Wanchai. The Harbour Carnival offered game booths, magic shows, school performances and lucky draw for students to participate.

Talk about Town Planning
Representatives of Planning Department were invited by our school’s Liberal Studies and Geography Department to conduct a talk about Town Planning,
which was successfully held on 1st November. We were honoured to invite Ms Carmen SY Chan, a town planner, to share with us on the topic entitled “Kai Tai Planning Review”,
enabling students to have a better understanding of the relationship between urban planning and the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
Students were actively involved and were greatly benefited from the talk.
